The issue with corn in the United States is a tricky one. I agree with the post stating that the United States should focus on more than one resource. This would allow us to do healthier things with our food instead of just buffering everything with corn. However, corn is, in general, an incredibly simple, inexpensive crop to grow. Therefore, it is a good resource for farmers to have because they can, in theory, make more money off of it and rely on it more heavily than most other crops.
In addition, the politics of this type of issue never ceases to amaze me. As the article points out, presidential candidates are silly not to voice support for ethanol. If they didn't, they would lose huge political support in Iowa (one of the most important political states), where many farmers reside.
